Nina Deering
Nina Deering began her study of music at the age of five. Music and dance practice were a daily ritual. Every third Saturday of each month for the following twelve years Nina would perform for the residents at The Remington Club Assisted Living Facility. A 2003 graduate of Rancho Bernardo High School, Nina pursued an Associates Degree at Palomar Junior College and graduated in June 2007 with her Associate Degree in Music, and an additional degree in Liberal Art and Sciences. Nina Deering began her position at Kensington Community Church in September 2007. Prior to her current position Nina was the accompanist at Western Hills Baptist Church for two years.
During the last four years Nina has recieved various academic scholarships which include The Howard Brubeck Scholarship 2004, The Bob Gilson Scholarship 2005, 2006, and the Ivey Wickham Scholarship 2007. San Diego State University has also given her a book scholarship for each semester she attends.
Nina is also an avid Jazz Singer. From 2003-2004 Nina was the lead and the only female member for the High Stakes Swing Band. Nina is the vocalist for the Ross Rizzo Trio based at the Bernardo Winery, 2004-2007, and one-half of a duo with Kevin Flowers, guitarist. Nina is also an accompanist for memorials and weddings and is available for special engagements.
Nina Deering studied piano with her mother, Martha Deering for twelve years. At Palomar she studied with Diane Snodgrass and is now studying with Ron Morebello and Karen Folingstadt at SDSU. Her organ professor has been Chris Cook.
During the month of October 2007 Nina will attend membership classes and will become a member of the Kensington Community Church. It has been a dream come true to attain the position of accompanist at Kensington. The experience of working with a professional staff affords Nina continued growth in the field of religious service.
Nina’s current goal is to attain her Masters degree in Music in order that she might teach at the university level. |
